Health and Safety Specialist
Aqua Pennsylvania, a large investor-owned water and wastewater services provider is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist. The position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of health and safety programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and institutional policies.
The position’s primary geographical area of support is the five counties surrounding Philadelphia County (Southeast PA). Periodically, support to other Aqua PA and Aqua NJ areas will be required.
Job Description
- Interfaces with field staff and management to determine safety support needs, and delivers on the same.
- Manages, develops, implements, and enforces Aqua’s safety program.
- Works with local and corporate stakeholders to develop, implement, and update effective Standard operating procedures and policies.
- Investigates injuries and incidents and interfaces using Aqua practices and procedures.
- Interprets technical and regulatory information to provide guidance to operations staff.
- Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) to explain Aqua policies and procedures and safety/risk management concepts and practices
- Be an active member on the PA safety committee.
- Prepare and manage operational and capital safety budgets.
- Conduct safety audits and field inspections and document findings and assign follow-up actions.
- Initiate changes to safety program for continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain safety training programs and records of completion.
- Manage safety equipment needs for required inspection or replacement frequencies.
- Implement and manage Right to Know requirements for Hazardous materials
- Investigate and evaluate new safety equipment for appropriateness.
- Administer procurement and distribution of safety PPE and tools.
- Manage safety vendors and or consultants.
- Respond and support safety for emergency situations.
- Participate in the review of engineering designs and construction projects with a focus on general workplace safety, ergonomics, hazard identification (labeling), parking/maneuverability.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications)
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational environment health and safety, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial environment or construction environment preferred. Other experience related to Utility operations will be considered.
- Safety related certifications preferred.
- Possess valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Common and Expected Requirements:
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations. Company will provide industry specific safety training through on-the job experience and formal training classes
- Computer skills, including a proficiency in using common business software applications, and requirements to become proficient with Aqua’s software platforms.
- Good written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely).
- Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
- Work effectively in a team-fostered multi-tasking environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Work Schedule, Travel, and Working Environment:
- Standard business work hours, Monday through Friday. Periodic non-standard hour support during emergencies / special circumstances.
- 65% Filed based work; 35% office environment – can vary week to week.
- Overnight travel up to 5% of the year.
- Working environment includes office, operating treatment facilities, indoor and outdoor.
