Towanda Municipal Authority is seeking qualified candidates for a Utility Maintenance Technician.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Utility Maintenance Operator
Position Summary: This position is directly responsible for the maintenance of the water, wastewater, and treatment plant utilities. This includes water production facilities and pump stations. Wastewater collection system pump stations as well as treatment process equipment at the wastewater treatment facilities.
Supervision Received: Utility Operator works under the immediate supervision of the Water and Sewer Systems Superintendent in coordination with the Chief Wastewater Treatment plant operator and the Public Works Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Works primarily by himself or herself but is occasionally assigned helpers as necessary who he/she will supervise
Duties & Responsibilities: The following describes the most significant duties of the position but does not exclude other assigned tasks.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs facilities of the sewer collection and water distribution systems.
- Estimates cost and time for all aspects of maintenance, repair, and construction work
- Diagnoses malfunctions and determines effective courses of action for correcting them
- Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, drawings, schematics, sketches, plans, specifications, and mechanical illustrations.
- Operates equipment and utilizes a variety of hand, power tools, and specialize equipment to operate, maintain, and repair the water supply and distribution and sewer collection and conveyance of water and wastewater.
- Maintains buildings and properties used for the supply, collection, and conveyance of water and wastewater.
- Records information and files reports for all work done on equipment and prepares routine and special reports.
- Determines remedial action in emergency situations
- Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours, including weekends, holidays, and inclement weather to correct conditions that affect the safe and efficient operation of the water and wastewater systems.
- Available for scheduled and emergency overtime, regarding the water and wastewater facilities and maintenance.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
- Performs all other tasks as directed by the Authority.
Minimum Qualifications: Utility Operator shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Possess a valid Pa. Driver’s license
- General knowledge of equipment, facilities, PLCs, materials, methods, and procedures used in water and wastewater collection and treatment systems
- Experience with electrical; installation, and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, and devices.
- Strong Maintenance/Mechanical background
- Basic knowledge of telemetry equipment (SCADA) operations
- Ability to work weekends and holidays, be on call and respond to calls during non-working hours.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
